Why we built Audmit

We started Audmit because we watched California's AI statutes multiply while the companies they affect had no clear way to figure out which ones applied. The statutes themselves are accessible — they're public law — but mapping them to a specific company's operations requires both legal interpretation and technical understanding of AI systems. That combination is expensive when you hire for it and confusing when you try to do it yourself.

We thought the answer was a system that does the mapping first: take in what a company actually does with AI, match it against the obligations, and produce a clear picture of what's in scope before anyone picks up a pen. Not a chatbot that paraphrases statute text, but a structured compliance engine that a company can walk through, and that an attorney can review and sign off on.

That's what Audmit does. We map which California AI obligations apply to a given company, we organize the evidence needed to close each one, we track the work through to completion, and we make sure every closure is reviewed by a licensed attorney before it ships. The system handles the structure; the attorney handles the judgment.

We built this for mid-market companies and growing startups — the organizations that take compliance seriously but don't have a ten-person legal team to throw at it. If you're a Fortune 500 with an in-house AI governance group, you probably have this covered. If you're everyone else in California deploying AI systems, we built Audmit for you.

How we're structured

Audmit operates as two entities by design, not by accident. The technology company provides the compliance platform, the self-assessment tool, the obligation-tracking system, and the consulting services that organize a company's compliance work. Legal services — attorney review, legal sign-off, engagement letters — are provided by the affiliated law practice under a separate engagement between the practice and the client. This structure keeps the technology and consulting accessible while ensuring that legal work is performed by licensed attorneys under proper professional obligations.
